This story blooms slowly and strategically like a flower. The characters are flawed, which makes them so relatable and real; it's within the characters' flaws that The Music We Make becomes interesting. They're the types of characters you cheer on during their missteps, because you want them to get through their struggles. This book has a little bit of everything to please readers: a love triangle, a great "sex, drugs, and rock & roll" story, family drama, a bit of suspense, and a universally human element that always pierces my heart: learning to live with the constant heartbreak in a world without your mother. And, as a bonus, there's an original song! An incredibly well-crafted debut novel that kept me asking, "Oooh, what happens next?"
